Masala & Spice Packing Machines
Spice powders such as chilli, turmeric, masala and curry are packed with an auger filler because they are fine and do not flow freely. Small 5–50 g sachets run on our 160F sachet machine at 30–70 per minute; 100 g–1 kg pillow bags on the HY-420F VFFS; stand-up pouches on the rotary powder line; and jars on the semi-automatic or automatic auger filler.

What to watch out for
Dust and cross-contamination
Chilli and turmeric stain and irritate. Specify a dust collector and quick-strip auger so you can clean between products.
Oily powders bridge
Masala blends with oil can bridge in the hopper. An agitator in the hopper keeps powder moving to the auger.
Seeds and whole spices
Whole cumin, pepper or cloves are granules: use cups (HY-420B) or a weigher, not an auger.

How do I keep the seal clean with chilli powder?
Use an auger with anti-drip (anti-leak) tooling, keep the bag top long enough, and add bag-mouth cleaning on pouch lines.
