Why Powder Flies During Filling — and How to Stop It
Powder flies during filling because air in the container is pushed out as powder falls in, carrying fine particles with it. The fix is to give that air a controlled exit: fit a dust collector at the filling nozzle, hold the container so the nozzle sits inside it, use anti-leak auger tooling, feed the hopper by vacuum instead of an open screw, and clean the bag mouth before sealing on pouch lines.

What does dust cost me?
Lost product, longer cleaning, irritated operators and — most expensive — leaking packs, because powder trapped in the seal stops the film bonding. On pouch and sachet lines a dirty seal area is the most common cause of rejected packs.
Five fixes that work
- Dust (powder) collector at the auger outlet captures airborne powder during each fill
- Container or bag holder keeps the nozzle inside the container and frees the operator's hands
- Anti-leak (anti-drip) auger tooling stops powder trickling between fills
- Vacuum feeder moves powder to the hopper in a closed pipe
- Bag-mouth cleaning on premade pouch lines removes powder before the heat seal
Which machines have these options?
Our 30/50/80 L semi-automatic auger fillers take a powder collector, viewing window, level sensor, bag holder and weight detector. The rotary powder pouch system includes bag-mouth cleaning and dust collection, and vacuum feeders are available for all auger lines.
Frequently asked questions
Will a dust collector change my fill weight?
It removes only airborne particles, a very small fraction of the fill. Calibrate once with the collector running.
